Homemade Kool-Aid Marshmallows

Kool-Aid Marshmallows

See how to make these fun and delicious Kool-Aid Marshmallows.  If you love Kool-Aid you will love this simple recipe.  Years ago I would never had thought to flavor marshmallows with different flavors.  I have always though of marshmallows as being bland and not very flavorful.

I recently made some homemade Mountain Dew marshmallows and immediately thought about other fun flavors I could add to make marshmallows better.  Kool-Aid was a natural choice.

Making marshmallows at home is a very easy process.  It only takes some basic ingredients and patients.  You will need some patients to let the recipe firm up and some patients to whisk it for a while.  This is why I highly recommend a stand mixer to perform this task.  I used my trusty KitchenAid Stand Mixer.  It has saved me so much time through the years.

The process of making these marshmallows starts with choosing your favorite flavor of Kool-Aid.  If you are like me you will find this to be the hardest part of making this recipe.  That is why I decided on making three different batches each with their own flavor.  I choose to make Cherry, Grape and Blue Raspberry Kool-Aid.  Cherry was my favorite with grape coming in a close second.

If you would like to see step-by-step how I made this recipe watch here:

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 1 package Kool-Aid
  • 3 packages of gelatin (.75 oz)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 8x8 dish
  • butter (for dish lining)
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar

Directions:
  1. Start with a stand mixer bowl.  Add water and Kool-Aid and give it a slight mix to incorporate.
  2. Add gelatin and let sit for 5 minutes.
  3. In a medium sauce pan add sugar, salt, water and corn syrup.  Heat on medium heat until it reaches 240 F.  Turn off heat and let sit only a couple of minutes.
  4. Prepare a 8x8 inch dish by lining well with butter.  (13x8 dish if your want your marshmallows thinner)
  5. Attach mixer bowl to stand mixer with the whisk attachment.  Slowly add the contents from the sauce pan to the mixing bowl as you whisk.  Let it dribble down the side slowly.
  6. After the sauce pan is empty increase the speed of the mixer and mix for 6-8 minutes on high until it resembles marshmallow fluff.
  7. Pour your marshmallow fluff into your prepared dish and let sit for firm up at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
  8. When firm, dust with powdered sugar and coat a sharp knife with powdered sugar.  Then cut into 1 inch squares.  Coat each marshmallow square with powdered sugar individually.
