Homemade Everlasting Gobstoppers

Homemade Everlasting Gobstoppers

See how to make homemade Everlasting Gobstoppers straight from the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.  Everyone loves a fun recipe that not only looks good but tastes good too.  These fun treats are made with 5 different flavors and colors to match.

If you are a fan of the classic version of Willy Wonka, you will recognize the shape of an Everlasting Gobstopper immediately.  It has a shape like no other with it’s protruding pyramid shaped spikes.  As a fan myself, I always wanted to try an Everlasting Gobstopper.

It took a lot of trial and error but I was able to figure out how to make one for myself.  Well, not just one but many of them.  I don’t have a secrete Everlasting Gobstopper machine in my basement but I do have a test kitchen and patience.  Lot’s of patiences!  I also have experience with testing recipes.  When I made a Giant Marshmallow Peep, I had to test it out a few times.   Now these Everlasting Gobstoppers will not last forever like they do in the movie but they do taste amazing and look even cooler.

Here is what you will need to make these:
Supplies:
     1 pot
     popsicle sticks
     wax paper

Ingredients:
(for each batch)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • Flavoring
  • Food Coloring
  • confectionary sugar
  • cooking spray

Directions:
  1. Start with a heavy bottomed pan and add sugar, water and light corn syrup.
  2. Heat the pan over high heat while stirring until all the sugar has dissolved and the liquid becomes clear.  Then stop stirring and add a candy thermometer.
  3. While your liquid is heating up, prepare your pyramid mold by spraying it with cooking spray and lightly coating it with confectionary sugar.
  4. When the temperature reaches 305 degrees F. turn off heat and remove the thermometer.  Add in food coloring and flavoring then stir.
  5. Pour this evenly over your mold and wipe excess with an offset spatula.  Let harden then remove from mold.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 a total of 5 times.
  7. Then make one more batch but don’t pour in the mold.  This will work as the glue to assemble the gobstoppers.
  8. Using a popsicle stick, dip in the last batch and apply it to one of your pyramid shaped candies.  Attach another candy to it.  It is best to use alternating colors when doing this.  Work quickly as your glue will harden fast.  When all sides are covered you are done.
