Halloween Cake Within a Cake

If you’re looking for that over the top dessert to make for your upcoming Halloween party…stop looking!  Here it is.

This cake within a cake will have your guests asking how you did it.  Its much simpler than you might think.

Ingredients:

  • 2 boxes of white cake mix (plus ingredients per instructions on boxes)
  • 2 different food colorings
  • a cookie cutter
  • cake frosting
Directions:

Prepare 1 box of cake mix according to instructions on box.  Add food coloring for the inside cake.  Spread prepared cake mix evenly and only about 1 inch in height in a large cake pan. (You may need multiple cake pans)  Bake for about 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.  Allow cake to cool and use cookie cutter to cut multiple cutouts.  Stack the cutouts on top of each other.
Next, prepare your second cake mix and add outside food coloring.  Pour about ½ inch of the prepared cake mix into the bottom of a loaf pan.  Then place your cookie cutout cake into the loaf pan.  (Make sure the cutouts are stacked tightly against each other to make one big design)  Pour remaining cake mix over the top and sides of the design.  Then bake about 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees.  Allow to cool.
Once cooled add cake frosting to cake.
