How to Make a Giant Oreo Cookie

Nothing says “Delicious” like an Oreo cookie and a tall glass of milk.  Original Oreo’s are good, double stuffed Oreo’s are great and Mega stuffed Oreo’s are even better, but nothing beats a giant Oreo cookie.  This cookie will have your friends and family members begging you to make it for their birthdays and other parties.

If you want to try your hand at making your own giant Oreo cookie, here are the things you will need:

For the cookie

  • 1 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • ¾  cup (1 and a half sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • Black food coloring (optional)

(This makes one portion of the giant cookie.  Double this recipe and divide into two if you don’t want to make two separate batches)

For the Filling

  • 7 cups confectionary sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup vegetable shortening
  • 4 tablespoons hot water

Directions:

1.  Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

2.  In a large bowl, mix the flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, salt and sugar until well mixed.

3.  Add butter and egg.  Mix until it becomes a doughy consistency

4.  Add black food coloring (optional)

5.  Place dough in a 9 inch pan lined with parchment paper and press dough down firmly.

6.  Bake for 12-16 minutes depending on the thickness.  1 inch deep should take about 12 minutes.

7.  Remove from oven and place on cooling rack.

8.  Repeat these steps for the second portion of the cookie.

Filling
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together using an electric mixer at medium speed for about 5-7 minutes.  (It will appear dry but should feel almost like play dough when complete.)

When complete, combine the filling with the cookies and prepare to serve.  Share with your friends and family.
