Fried Kool-Aid Balls

Kool-Aid is a product that everyone remembers from their childhood.  When I saw that people were using Kool-Aid as an ingredient in other foods, it sparked my interest.  So I decided to make deep fried kook-aid balls.  These were easy to make and tasted like a cherry flavored donut.

Ingredients:
Dry
  • 1 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 0.13 ounces of Kool-Aid (any flavor)

Wet
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dusting
  • Confectionary Sugar

Directions:
  1. Start by setting your deep fryer to 365 degrees with vegetable oil in it.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and Kool-Aid pack together.
  3. Set dry mixture aside.
  4. In a smaller bowl add beaten egg, milk, butter and vanilla extract and mix.
  5. Combine wet mixture to dry mixture and mix until it reaches a play dough type of consistency.
  6. When vegetable oil reaches 365 degrees, scoop out a small amount of dough and add to oil.
  7. Let cook for 3-4 minutes. (more if you use a larger scoop)
  8. Remove from deep fryer when the Kool-Aid balls turn slightly brown and place on paper towels to drain.
  9. Coat with a light dusting of confectionary sugar and serve while still warm.
