Homemade Churro's

If you are like me, when you go to a fast food restaurant you are just as excited about the dessert as you are about the main course.  My favorite fast food dessert is Taco Bell’s Churro’s.  There is something special about this savory treat.  It could be the cinnamon and sugar coating or maybe the perfectly fried dough.  What ever it is, they taste great.

Ingredients:

Churro’s
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of flour
  • Deep fryer with oil or about 2 quarts in a frying pan

Sugar Coating
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Directions:
  1. In a small pan combine water, sugar, salt and vegetable oil.  Bring mixture to a boil over medium heat while stirring.
  2. Once it starts to boil, remove from heat and stir in flour until flour forms a doughy clump.
  3. Set deep fryer to 375 degrees F.
  4. Using a piping bag with a Wilton 1m tip or a plastic bag with a 1/2 inch opening, pipe about 4-6 inch strips directly into hot oil.
  5. Fry until golden brown (2-3 minutes)
  6. In a separate dish, combine sugar and cinnamon for coating.
  7. As soon as the Churro has been removed from the oil place in coating and cover completely.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and you too can make your own Churro’s.
