Pokémon Go Pokéball Pops

Recently, Nintendo launched the Pokemon Go App for smartphones in many different countries around the world.  Never has an App taken off so fast.  This interactive App which capitalizes on the popular Pokemon franchise encourages people to go out and capture Pokemon characters in parks, paths and other places throughout the world.

It seems that everyone is staring down at their phones while wondering in public places now.  In the game, players use a Pokeball to capture these characters.  The most well known of the characters is Pikachu.

While I was on vacation with my good friend Steve from Steve’s Kitchen on Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/steveowenskitchen), we decided to have a little fun and create a dessert using the theme of this game.

We each decided to make a video showing how to make cake pops into Pokemon characters.  Steve make Pikachu and I made the Pokeball.
Here you can find the recipe for the Pokeball cake pops.

Ingredients:
     - 2 cup of pound cake (diced)
     - 3 teaspoons frosting
     - Candy melts (white and red)
     - Black writing gel or use black frosting / candy melts
     - Candy edible eye

Directions:
  1. Start with an already prepared pound cake and dice up into 1 inch cubes.  Place in a food processor and crumb into fine pieces.  Add frosting and mix until well combined.  (Texture should be firm enough to roll into balls without falling apart)
  2. Roll into meatball sized balls.
  3. Melt white candy melts and dip the end of your candy pop sticks into the melted chocolate.  Insert into the rolled cake balls and place on a dish ball side down.  Place in the refrigerator for 30 - 60 minutes until firm.
  4. Remove from the refrigerator and dip the ball completely into the white candy melts.   Let drain and place on a cake pops holder or foam board.  Place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  5. Melt red candy melts and remove the cake pops from the refrigerator.  Dip the cake pops into the red candy melts only have way.  Drain while holding the cake pops on it’s side so that the color doesn't run.  Let dry.
  6. Draw a thin line where the red and white candy melts join.  Place a candy edible eye backwards in the center.  Let dry and then serve.
